Farewell To A Great Friend Who Changed My Life..

Farewell To A Great Friend Who Changed My Life..

Farewell To A Great Friend Who Changed My life.. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t quote something from my dear friend and psychologist Dr. Jeanne Goen. Saying Farewell To A Great Friend Who Changed My Life.. is a tribute to someone who saved me in my deepest sorrow. I will never forget the day I showed up at her door nineteen years ago this August. A sunny Los Angeles Saturday, I fumbled through my scribbled down directions and made my way to her Brentwood apartment. I was an hour early, (guess I wrote down the wrong time.) I sat for that hour in the local Starbucks and waited for what seemed like hours. From the moment I spoke to her I felt better, and it was there in her office that I started to heal. Of course at the time it didn’t feel like there was hope, but in retrospect, yes, she gave me hope, and I hung on her wisdom and every word. Slowly I climbed out of the hole I had dug and looked forward to my weekly meetings with my therapist. Over the years, she helped me through a painful divorce, a new relationship and marriage that blessed us with two boys and many other issues big and small. We laughed a lot and I cried a lot, and before we ever got started we would always talk art. Like me, she was an artist, and had a great appreciation for all kinds of art. She was influenced by Wolf Kahn and Willem de Koonig, and I loved to see how her painting excursions...
the life-changing magic of tidying up, A Book Review

the life-changing magic of tidying up, A Book Review

the life-changing magic of tidying up, A Book Review the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing marie kondo The past week I spent tackling my clothes in an initial overhaul to reduce my belongings. Holding to the author’s promise, I did indeed got rid of more than half of my stuff, a freeing and down right spiritual adventure. the life-changing magic of tidying up, A Book Review has changed the way I live. From the depths of my closet I expelled the clothes that I would never have worn again but would have continued to keep and care for. My method of organizing was not as affective as I would have never put every article of clothes on the floor in a heap to start to decide where each item would end up. As the book suggested, I picked up each article of clothes and asked myself if it sparked joy in me, if the answer was no, it was tossed into the “get rid of” pile. I considered that this might be daunting and yes I was correct as I was overwhelmed by the sight of the pile before me. It does something to your soul to see what you own and you come to the realization that you don’t own it at all, but that your stuff owns you! You store it, launder it, fold it, hang it….move it and so on. Marie Kondo teaches that we were never taught the art of organizing and decluttering, and therefore simply don’t understand how to do it in a way that will fully impact your life. Liberating your thoughts...

Time With Family / Time For Yourself

Time With Family / Time For Yourself

Time With Family / Time For Yourself Ok guys, it’s time to start thinking about the new year and what you want from it, how you will obtain it and create whatever it is that will bring you the most happiness. Time with family / time for yourself is about trying to find a good balance in how you spend each precious moment here on earth. The new coming year is a chance to re-invent yourself and to purge old thought patterns that hold you back. What will your resolutions be? Spending time with family is important especially if you only get together once a year for the holidays. Make the time and put in the extra effort to just “be” with loved ones, but also carve out time to be alone. Time alone is vital for your happiness and definitely needed after all the stress the holidays bring. Take a long walk in nature whenever you can and just be one with the trees and the earth. I cannot miss my morning walks on the lake, sometimes with a friend but often alone. When I start my day this way it always puts me in a peaceful place in mind body and spirit. Create new routines by creating new thought patterns on where you are putting your energy on your time off. If we constantly put things we think one day we will have on the back burner, the back burner is where they will stay. We have to shake it up, and move energy by doing something different to achieve what we want. So let 2015 be the...
